Ange Postecoglou praises Tottenham Hotspur player for becoming braver on the ball

Tottenham Hotspur pounced to sign Radu Dragusin during the January transfer window and Ange Postecoglou likes what he has seen.

Even weeks ahead of the January transfer window, Tottenham Hotspur had one desperate need.

A centre back was an absolute priority despite the superb partnership of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.

Injuries and suspensions had left Tottenham short at the back and signing another top centre back option was a necessity.

In came Radu Dragusin with the Romania international arriving from Juventus despite an offer to join Bayern Munich.

Dragusin picked a move to Tottenham but only started four Premier League games after his arrival in North London.

Ange Postecoglou on Radu Dragusin

Dragusin found himself behind Romero and Van de Ven and had to remain patient behind the pair.

We saw an encouraging performance against Manchester City just days before the season ended, giving Tottenham fans a glimpse of his quality.

Tottenham don’t have too many players featuring at Euro 2024, but Dragusin is one of them.

A key man in the Romania side and tipped to be their star centre back for years to come, Dragusin has been featuring in Germany over the last week.

Dragusin helped Romania beat Ukraine 3-0 with an outstanding performance but couldn’t prevent a 2-0 defeat to Belgium on Saturday.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was on punditry duty for that Romania clash against Belgium and offered his view on Dragusin.

Speaking to ITV, Postecoglou admitted that he thinks Dragusin is a ‘super kid’ and has been impressed by his willingness to learn.

Postecoglou noted that Dragusin’s defensive schooling has pretty much been centred around the Italian approach, making him a strong centre back who ‘loves defending’.

The Australian added that Dragusin is now becoming increasingly brave with his passing and absolutely loves that he is a Tottenham player.

“He is a super kid and he really wants to learn,” said Postecoglou. “He actually went to Juventus at a very young age, so he has been schooled in Italian defending. He is a defender who loves defending. He is a brave passer as well, he is sort of adding that to his game. He is only 22, but he is a great kid and I am super happy that we have got him at Spurs,” he added.

Dragusin wants Tottenham Hotspur stay

Postecoglou’s comments will have surely been well-received by Dragusin, who will be looking to make a big impression this summer.

Breaking into the team ahead of Romero and Van de Ven is a thankless task, but a strong pre-season is the best way for Dragusin to put himself in Postecoglou’s thoughts for a starting role.

Dragusin also appears committed to staying at Tottenham despite some doubts about his future at the club.

Reports in May suggested that Napoli were interested in bringing Dragusin back to Italy just months after his move from Genoa.

A swift exit just never really seemed likely and Dragusin completely played down those exit rumours earlier in June.

Now fully focused on his future at Tottenham, Dragusin will hope to take a strong Euro 2024 campaign into his club football.
