'Fantastic': National media left blown away by £25m forward Tottenham want to buy after scoring for country

A striker who has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur has just delivered an excellent goal-scoring display for this country.

Ange Postecoglou is thought to want to add a versatile forward to his Tottenham team this summer, someone who is as confident playing out wide as they are in the middle.

Spurs seem unlikely to chase a traditional number nine so to speak, perhaps explaining why interest in Ivan Toney is cooling.

Of course, a lot of the club’s summer plans could still hinge on the future of Richarlison.

Tottenham are reportedly willing to sell Richarlison, who has become jack of all trades, but a master of none under Postecoglou.

It’s certainly not impossible that Spurs could still add a forward regardless of Richarlison staying, but it would cause a fairly bloated forward line.

That being said, TBR recently shared that Tottenham are concretely interested in a move for Lille striker Jonathan David – who was in excellent form at Copa America 2024 on Tuesday.

Tottenham linked Jonathan David stars for Canada in 1-0 Copa America win

After scoring 27 goals for Lille in all competitions last season, David is now at Copa America with his country, aiming to cause an upset.

Interestingly, David played something akin to an attacking midfield role in Canada’s 1-0 win against Peru on Tuesday.

And as well as scoring the decisive goal, David perhaps demonstrated why Postecoglou would be willing to add the versatile forward, given the amount of positions he can solve.

Canadian media were impressed with David’s ‘fantastic’ performance, and shared their ratings after the win.

Canadian Premier League wrote: “David executed well in his role especially on the defensive side of the game, making five tackles and an interception, also winning a team-high 10 duels and drawing five fouls.

“Plus, of course, he scored the winner with a fantastically composed finish. It was an all-around great performance, capped off with a moment that he’s been desperate for.”

David would offer more than just goals for Postecoglou

Evidently, David demonstrated several strong facets to his game in the win, explaining why his £25m price tag could be incredibly appealing.

The 24-year-old has often been linked with moves at much higher prices over the years, a talent who still has untapped potential.

Of course, Tottenham will ultimately need to decide if David has the level of ability they need in order to go one step further next season.

Some who have watched David extensively do feel that he suffers from a similar conundrum to Richarlison, in the sense that he doesn’t excel in one specific area.

But the call will be Postecoglou’s, who has several directions in which he could take Tottenham’s summer transfer window.
