Report: How Nottingham Forest really feel behind the scenes about Ibrahim Sangare

Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare is the club’s record signing but his maiden campaign didn’t quite go according to plan.

The player signed for £30 million from PSV on transfer deadline day – shortly after Forest had made the decision to sell Brennan Johnson to Tottenham.

Sangare made just 17 appearances for the club, with just six of those coming in 2024.

Still, there were a number of factors that hampered Sangare as he bid to showcase to the Forest fan base that he was worth the money.

He returned from the African Cup of Nations in February after contracting malaria and that saw him lose a lot of weight and not be fit enough to play.

Sangare also had some niggling injuries to contend with that might he wasn’t often at full tilt for Forest.

Now, a report has been released that suggests how people are feeling about Sangare behind the scenes at the City Ground.

It would appear as though Forest aren’t quite ready to wash their hands of Sangare just yet.

According to The Athletic, the Reds have received some interest from Galatasary but the record signing in Turkey is just £17 million and it would need to be a bid considerably higher than that to entice Forest.

It’s also claimed that Forest aren’t overly keen on a sale.

There is hope behind the scenes that Sangare can still come good in the future with a proper pre-season and a run of games under his belt.

At 26-years-old, Sangare does have some time on his side and now seems as though Forest will be supporting their record signing this summer.

Sangare needs help and encouragement not bashing from the stands

Forest fans are typically loyal and give every player a chance to shine.

However, in booing Sangare during the first half of a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, they let down their record signing.

Okay, he didn’t play well but since Forest have returned to the Premier League, there have been others who have performed worse and they’ve not been offered any such treatment.

Sangare didn’t choose to cost £30 million and that shouldn’t be used as a stick to beat him with.

Perhaps there is an argument that he needs to do more when he’s called upon but as a defensive midfielder, he won’t be taking six players on and scoring screamers every week.

His stats are impressive too. He has an average of 3.65 tackles per 90 minutes and that puts him in the top two per cent of midfielders in the big five leagues in Europe.

Forest look to have made their decision on Sangare and now it’s on the supporters to support him and not slam him!
