Report: Nottingham Forest struggling to sell defender as he craves huge wage elsewhere

Joe Worrall is Nottingham Forest through and through but his time at the club looks to be drawing to a close.

The centre-back spent the second half of last season out on loan with Besiktas and is now on borrowed time at Forest.

It would appear that Nuno Espirito Santo isn’t going to make him part of his squad next season and an exit feels likely.

Worrall was an integral part of the team that won promotion to the Premier League during the 2021/22 campaign and he rose through the club’s academy ranks.

The 27-year-old will now hope to get hooked up with a new club before the season starts as Forest look to reshuffle their squad.

Report shares why Nottingham Forest haven’t sold Joe Worrall yet

Forest will hope to offload a number of players this summer and Worrall is one that has been deemed surplus to requirements.

However, according to the Sunday Mirror, it would appear that the reason he’s not been sold yet is down to Worrall.

They’ve claimed that the player is keen to stay in England but is asking for wages that so far clubs have been unable to match.

Worrall struggled for game time in Turkey during the second half of the campaign – although he did help Besiktas win the Turkish Cup.

The central defender will report back for pre-season training as things stand but Forest will be accepting bids of around £4 million for his services.

Forest need to get Worrall sold as quickly as possible

The Reds are on a tight deadline and the 30th of June needs to come and go with Forest having made £20 million.

That’s the number that would see them comply with PSR and avoid a points deduction for a second successive season.

Worrall is down the pecking order on Trentside now and the Reds need to get him off of the books pretty sharpish.

It would appear that the defender is holding out for a big wage and that isn’t helping things when it comes to getting him out of the club.

Worrall is Forest through and through and perhaps it’s a bit of a grind for him to leave the City Ground for the final time.

However, the player is a solid defender – particularly at Championship level – and hopefully, he can find himself a new club in the coming weeks before the season gets underway.
