Report: 'Promising' £25m player all set to leave his club after being linked to Newcastle

A talented teenage defender is set to leave his club this summer amidst links to Newcastle United, according to a recent report.

The Magpies are in the market this summer for reinforcements as they look to assemble a squad capable of a top-four challenge.

Last season they came up stuck due to injuries brought on by a lack of squad depth, so the onus will be on club chiefs to bring in a number of quality additions to avoid another inconsistent year.

With that said, one of their rumoured targets is all set to leave Juventus this summer, meaning a deal to join Tyneside could be in the works.

Dean Huijsen set to leave Juventus

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus centre-back Dean Huijsen – who spent last season on loan at Roma – is all set to leave the Turin titans this summer window.

Newcastle have been in contact with Juve to sign Huijsen and are leading the race for his signature along with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

The 19-year-old, who made his Spain under-21 debut in March, made 14 senior appearances for Roma last term, operating mainly as a centre-back but also in midfield – evincing his terrific versatility.

Juve don’t see Huijsen as part of their plans and are willing to sanction his sale if a bid worth £25m arrives.

Juventus ready to accelerate sale

It seems newly appointed Juventus manager Thiago Motta is eager to offload Huijsen as the club are now accelerating the process to sell him.

The sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is due to meet with his representatives soon and that could be the catalyst for Newcastle to submit an opening offer.

Though, with Dortmund keeping close tabs, they’ll have to offer Huijsen a convincing pitch.
