Report: 'Incredible' player West Ham signed in 2022 really wants to leave for another Premier League club

A West Ham player is ready to push for a quick summer exit, according to a recent report.

Julen Lopetegui is in the process of reshaping his squad ahead of the fast-approaching Premier League season.

The former Wolves boss has already added Luis Guilherme to his ranks and is now on the lookout for a striker, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin the latest man linked.

However, to facilitate these incomings West Ham will have to trade like most Premier League clubs and one player is willing to push through a departure.

Flynn Downes ready to push through Southampton move

TBR reported last week that Southampton were leading the race to sign West Ham midfielder Flynn Downes this summer.

Now, the 2022 Hammers signing is ready to push through a move to St Mary’s as he wants a deal to be wrapped up as soon as possible, according to GiveMeSport.

Labelled as ‘incredible’ by Russell Martin via the official Swansea City website, Downes is eager to finalise a move before pre-season begins after being told he is set to become a squad player at the London Stadium.

He enjoyed his season-long loan spell on the South Coast last term and Saints are hopeful of completing a deal for less than £15m.

West Ham could be making a big mistake

The Hammers could be making a big mistake if they are to sanction the sale of Downes this summer.

The 25-year-old was one of the Championship’s best players last season and looked like a Premier League player in waiting.

Further, he fits Lopetegui’s possession-based style to a tee, so it’s a little surprising that they seem willing to move him on.

It wouldn’t at all be surprising to see him flourish in the top-flight next term under Martin’s stewardship, which would only double his valuation.
