Sergio Aguero claims attacker linked with Man City transfer is actually better than Julian Alvarez

Sergio Aguero certainly knows what it takes to be a top attacking player.

During his time at Manchester City, the striker scored 260 goals in 390 appearances across all competitions, winning numerous domestic trophies in the process.

Now though, Pep Guardiola has another Argentine striker in his squad in the shape of Julian Alvarez.

With two seasons under his belt at the Etihad Stadium, the 24-year-old has found the back of the net 36 times and delivered 18 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions.

Despite this impressive record from Alvarez, Aguero has now suggested that one player City have been linked with recently is actually better than his fellow countryman.

Sergio Aguero suggests Rodrygo is better than Julian Alvarez

Appearing in a recent video uploaded to the Goal TikTok channel, Aguero was asked to pick his favourites between certain figures currently appearing in the 2024 Copa America.

When asked to pick between Alvarez and Rodrygo, who City have been linked with a transfer move for recently according to Marca, the former striker went for the Real Madrid winger.

Alvarez and Rodrygo are both top attackers

Since joining Real back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Santos, the winger has gone on to make 216 senior appearances for the Spanish club across all competitions, scoring 54 goals and supplying 41 assists along the way.

Looking back over the duo’s previous individual domestic campaigns, the City star, who David Villa recently back to win the Golden Boot at Copa America this summer, racked up more goals (11 vs 10), assists (8 vs 5), shots on target (37 vs 35) and key passes (67 vs 46) than the Brazilian.

In our view, while both players are two of the best young attacking talents in the world right now, we feel surprised that Aguero chose Rodrygo over Alvarez on this occasion.
