Aston Villa now eyeing £30m move for ‘quality’ Ollie Watkins partner, Unai Emery will love him

It’s an exciting time to be an Aston Villa supporter as a Champions League finish has been backed up by ambition in the transfer window.

Aston Villa have made a very fast start to their summer business as Monchi and Unai Emery know that player sales must occur before the Villans can land their targets.

Funds are needed ahead of the 30th June PSR deadline, which is why the club are hoping to sanction moves for Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran.

Luiz is close to finalising his move to Juventus, while Enzo Barrenechea will travel in the other direction to Villa Park.

Villa’s business doesn’t stop there as a £37.5m move for Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen looks set to be complete within the next 48 hours.

It’s almost impossible to keep up with the current chaos in B6, and that has been heightened by recent links to a new striker.

Aston Villa eyeing move for Lille striker Jonathan David

Emery is perhaps preparing for the eventuality that Duran goes to Chelsea and the Spaniard could land an upgrade by signing Lille striker Jonathan David.

As reported by GIVEMESPORT, Villa have been touted with a move for the 24-year-old alongside fellow Premier League big hitters, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham.

The report claims clubs could land David for in the region of £30 million this summer, and that is exciting news for everyone associated with Villa, who crave a clinical upgrade on Duran.

Currently playing at Copa America with Canada, the 48-cap international plundered 26 goals and nine assists in 47 matches last term; outrageous numbers for an incredibly gifted player.

Jonathan David and Ollie Watkins could form a mouth-watering combination

Villa’s system is built around the centrepiece of it all; goal machine and chief creator, Ollie Watkins.

Watkins is the focal point of Emery’s starting XI, leading the line on his with support from multiple players in a number 10 role, including one of Youri Tielemans, Morgan Rogers or Moussa Diaby.

Emery could throw it back to the times when teams weren’t afraid to use two strikers by partnering David with the Englishman to form a potentially deadly duo.

At his current club Lille, the Canadian sharpshooter showcased his lethal edge in front of goal by placing in the top 17% of forwards across Europe for non-penalty goals.

However, David offers more than just an ability to find the net and is incredibly creative, dropping off to link play and ranking in the top 3% of strikers for pass completion and the top 20% for progressive carries per game.

This demonstrates how confident he is at receiving the ball in pockets of space and feeding his teammates. That is a role Watkins also played well having recorded 13 assists in the Premier League – the most of any forward across Europe.

For a cost of £30 million, Villa would be getting a “quality” Champions League striker who could not only challenge Watkins for a place in the starting XI but form a devastating duo with the 28-year-old.
