Samuel Iling-Junior's Aston Villa plans and what he wants from fans ahead of imminent transfer

Samuel Iling-Junior is set to become an Aston Villa player imminently as Unai Emery looks to build a squad ready to compete in the Champions League.

Samuel Iling-Junior is expected to secure his Aston Villa signing in the coming days as part of a deal that will see Douglas Luiz go to Juventus in return.

Villa will receive Iling-Junior, Enzo Barrenechea plus cash in return for Luiz, who is being sold to help alleviate the club’s PSR concerns.

The 20-year-old winger completed his medical on Tuesday ahead of signing a contract until 2029 and an interview from March gives fans some insight on what Villa fans can expect from the English talent.

Samuel Iling-Junior interview reveals what he wants at Aston Villa

ling-Junior left Chelsea as a 16-year-old to sign for Juventus, citing more opportunities and experiencing a different football and social culture as reasons for the move.

With 45 senior appearances for Juventus before the age of 21, you would have to say it is a move that has worked out, but with one year left on his contract the Turin club have seen fit to use him as a makeweight for the Luiz deal.

In an interview in The Telegraph in March, Iling-Junior revealed what he wants from his career as he said “My goals are high. I want to be a top-class player, winning trophies, being an important part, making people remember, always making people happy.

“When they see my name I want them to have a smile on their face. When I was younger and people would compliment me and say ‘you played well today; you made me happy’ it made me feel good.

“It’s about winning but it’s also about that as well. I want to win games: I want to win trophies; I want to be a serial winner and being at this club [Juventus] has helped me as well. It’s made me understand the importance of winning.”

This is a refreshing view from Iling-Junior in an industry places so much emphasis on results.

Whilst he of course wants to win, the winger realises the importance of playing football fans enjoy watching.

With his lighting quick feet, trickery and eye for goal the England under-21 international should flourish under Unai Emery at Villa Park.

A left-footed wide player, Iling-Junior was made to play on the left under the defence-minded Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus but his best position is on the right where he can cut in and use his stronger foot.

He is similar to Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby in this regard and he can help take some of the burden of the Villa duo who both looked fatigued towards the end of last season due to their intense workloads.

Villa fans should look forward to catching their first glimpses of the youngster in pre-season before a huge campaign.
