'Here we go': Fabrizio Romano says £15m striker has now rejected Arsenal to join Borussia Dortmund

After shortlisting Arsenal, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund as his options, one of Germany’s best strikers has now decided to join the latter.

It signals a real blow for Mikel Arteta and Edu – who could have provided Kai Havertz with some fierce competition for just £15m, due to a release clause.

So, who have Arsenal now missed out on to Borussia Dortmund? Let’s take a look…

Serhou Guirassy chooses Borussia Dortmund over Arsenal and AC Milan

A story from Sky Germany on Monday stated that VfB Stuttgart No.9 Serhou Guirassy had decided to change clubs this summer, with Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan his three options.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg then added that Borussia Dortmund were actually worried about missing out on the Guinea international to Arsenal.

Now – however – the striker has chosen Borussia Dortmund over the Gunners and AC Milan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable Italian journalist claims that the UEFA Champions League finalists have been working on a deal to sign Guirassy for months, and the 28-year-old has now told Nuri Sahin’s side that he wants to join.

Borussia Dortmund will now pay the Guinean’s bargain €17.5m (£15m) release clause and discuss personal terms with the striker – who scored 30 goals in 30 games last season – with a medical also set to follow.

Mikel Arteta and Edu may swiftly move on

Guirassy was not the only striker being linked with Arsenal, and judging by reports coming from Portugal, Arteta and Edu could quickly move on to Sporting CP No.9 Viktor Gyokeres.

It is believed that a £76m move to sign the Sweden international has been lined up in the background – according to Leonino – with Arsenal potentially sealing the deal by the end of this week.

Gyokeres has emerged from practically nowhere to become one of Europe’s most prolific frontmen, scoring 43 goals while also providing 15 assists in 50 appearances last season.

In our view, it is entirely possible that Arsenal were simply waiting to see if a cheaper option in Guirassy would choose them, before then deciding to spend big on the Swede.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Gyokeres could soon become an Arsenal player if these reports in Portugal are accurate.
