Body of missing 18-year-old swimmer recovered from N.J. reservoir

The body of a missing 18-year-old swimmer from Morris County was recovered from the Clinton Reservoir in West Milford on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

State Police divers pulled the body of Eshan Aman Ullah from the water at about 12:10 p.m. after they used sonar equipment, according to West Milford police

“The West Milford police department extends our sympathies to the Ullah family and their friends,” Chief Shannon Sommerville said in a statement.

Ullah, of Randolph, was part of a group that swam toward a small island in the middle of the reservoir at about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday when he went under the water and didn’t resurface, West Milford police said.

Police divers looked for Ullah until the search was called off due to darkness Tuesday. A State Police helicopter also conducted a grid search of the reservoir, which is part of the Newark Watershed.

Ullah was with two other 18-year-olds and two 17-year-olds at the reservoir on Tuesday.

The Passaic County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the search.
