Report: How the Newcastle hierarchy feels about Chelsea's interest in Alexander Isak

Newcastle United started this week by toasting the expiration of Bruno Guimaraes’ release clause, yet now they are receiving interest in Alexander Isak.

The Magpies have two top level players that they absolutely want to keep, and seeing Bruno Guimaraes‘ release clause expire without it being activated was a giant step towards him staying at St James’ Park.

He is vital to the PIF project, and the same goes for Alexander Isak.

Chelsea want to sign Alexander Isak

The 24-year-old is on the back of his best season ever, scoring 25 goals in all competitions for Newcastle United.

Isak’s efforts in front of goal have resulted in interest from Chelsea, who have launched an enquiry for the Sweden international. They want him to lead the line at Stamford Bridge after watching him shine in black and white over the past couple of years.

The striker recently made it clear that he is happy at Newcastle, but that has not stopped Chelsea from making a move.

How Newcastle officials have reacted to Chelsea’s approach

However, it does not appear that the Magpies are too worried about the Blues’ interest in Isak.

According to the Northern Echo, the Newcastle United hierarchy are not concerned about Chelsea making an approach for Isak. They report that they do not think Chelsea will either be able or willing to meet their asking price for a player who cost £63million two years ago.

He became Newcastle’s most expensive signing ever when he arrived in 2022, and it has been reported that it would now take an offer of at least £180million for Toon officials to even consider letting him go.

Newcastle focussed on handing Isak a new contract

While Chelsea are trying to sign Isak, Newcastle United are focussed on keeping him.

They want him to sign a new contract, and are working towards that end. He could even become the club’s highest paid player ever, which would be a real show of faith in a player who has lit up the Premier League since his move from Real Sociedad.

The Northern Echo add that Newcastle are confident about getting Isak to sign a new contract, despite the forward suddenly having the lure of Chelsea.

For the Magpies, they are in a commanding position. Isak does not have a release clause, which means Newcastle can set his asking price at whatever they want. And, understandably, they want a mega fee for a mega player.

That is why they feel he could be out of Chelsea’s reach, as they eye someone who would cost them more than £115million midfielder Moises Caicedo did last summer.
