What Chelsea’s Kendry Paez just did at the Copa America that already tops Lionel Messi

In a time where a number of promising players belong to Chelsea, there is one that seems to be standing out among the rest.

Kendry Paez is currently starting for his country with the number 10 on his back at the Copa America, featuring alongside Moises Caicedo.

While superstar Cole Palmer struggles to get any minutes for England after his monumental individual campaign, it seems Ecuador are not afraid to rely on a player who is just 17 years of age.

Despite already finding the net for his country before, last night was no doubt the biggest moment since he broke into the national team setup, scoring his first goal at a major tournament in their 3-1 win over Jamaica.

With him being exactly 17 years and 53 days old, it makes the future Chelsea man the second youngest player in history to find the net in this competition.

Paez beats Lionel Messi and Neymar as younger Copa America goalscorer

This takes him ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar in terms of making a statement early into his career at the international level.

Paez’s celebration will have caught the eye of a number of Chelsea fans too, with him seeming to copy the one made his own by Palmer at Stamford Bridge last season.

This is similar to what happened with another one of their top talents for the future earlier this week.

Paez and Estevao copy Cole Palmer’s celebration

Estevao Willian, who the club announced had been signed for the future recently, celebrated the same way after finding the net in his last start for his current club.

This got a reaction from Palmer on social media, leaving Chelsea fans very excited about what was to come from the club in the coming years.

It’s a massive game to come for Paez and co next, with a win against Mexico imperative to their hopes of going through to the quarter-finals.
