Report: How much money Chelsea could have to spend to sign Alexander Isak this summer

Chelsea have been linked with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The 24-year-old really shone in the Premier League last season so could be perfect for Chelsea.

In 30 appearances, Alexander Isak scored 21 goals for Newcastle.

However, if Chelsea really do want to sign the Sweden international, it does not look like it is going to be an easy task.

The Blues are in the market for a new striker as they look to bring in an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, who played almost 50 games for them during the 2023/24 campaign.

Newcastle United’s price tag for Alexander Isak

The most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history is Moises Caicedo after they signed him from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115m last summer.

To land Isak in this transfer window, it looks like they are going to have to absolutely smash that record.

That is because a report from The Northern Echo has claimed that it could take more than £200m to get the forward out of Newcastle.

Even if Chelsea did have that kind of money to spend on one player, having to take the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules into consideration, a move just does not seem feasible.

Are there any other Premier League strikers Chelsea can consider?

Potentially costing over £200m, that is definitely Isak off the table.

However, the Newcastle man is not the only Premier League centre-forward Chelsea can look at.

Brentford’s Ivan Toney could be a good option for them and should be available.

Toney’s contract expires in 2025, meaning Brentford are likely to sell him this summer if a good offer comes in.

Like Isak, Toney is obviously Premier League proven, scoring 20 goals in 33 appearances back in the 2022/23 campaign.

He could not hit that kind of form again last season, largely because of his suspension, but Toney remains an option worth considering as Chelsea’s search for a top striker goes on.
