Tottenham make contact to sign 'remarkable' £25m player who used to work as a bricklayer - journalist

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing a player with a truly remarkable story, according to a recent report.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will be eager to qualify for the Champions League this coming season after missing out to Aston Villa by two points.

Progression has been evident under the Australian head coach and the style of play is much more aligned with the supporters’ desires.

That said, they can’t afford to stand still in the window and must make a number of additions to bolster the squad with Europa League football on the horizon.

Tottenham interested in Federico Gatti

According to Italian journalist Gianni Balzarini, via Tutto Juve, Tottenham Hotspur have made contact to sign Juventus centre-back Federico Gatti.

The 26-year-old, who is currently away with Italy at the European Championships in Germany, is also attracting interest from Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

Spurs have carried out due diligence on Gatti and Juve have set a £25m price tag on the three-cap international.

It seems Newcastle are currently leading the race as they could make an official offer in the coming days whilst Postecoglou’s side also consider Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.

The remarkable story of Federico Gatti

Gatti’s rise is truly ‘remarkble’, as quoted by Smarter Scout.

The Italian centre-back was plying his trade in Italy’s sixth tier whilst working as a bricklayer only a few years ago.

He began to progress through the leagues; Serie D, C, B and finally joined Juventus in Serie A during the summer of 2022, having been signed earlier that year before being loaned back to second-tier outfit Frosinone.

Two years on, he’s established himself as one of the best defenders in Italy and will be hopefully of lifting the European Championships this summer before a potential Premier League move.
