Report: Wolves join race to sign £30m 'super talent' but there's one problem facing Gary O'Neil

Wolves have joined the race to sign one transfer target who dazzled in 2023/24 however, there is an issue.

Gary O’Neil is eyeing much-needed reinforcements this summer at Wolves, with two signings already completed.

Tommy Doyle made his loan from Manchester City permanent, with Rodrigo Gomes representing the first new arrival of the summer as he signed from Braga.

Pedro Lima is expected to sign a deal in the coming days and it doesn’t look like O’Neil is stopping there.

Wolves are interested in Sunderland winger Jack Clarke

Wolves are on the hunt for attackers this summer, with GIVEMESPORT now reporting that the Old Gold have joined the race to sign Jack Clarke.

The source claims that the Midlands club ‘are interested’ in the 23-year-old, with Crystal Palace also credited to be eyeing the winger.

While Sunderland will hope to keep their prized talent, they are believed to be standing firm on an asking price between £25m and £30m, which GIVEMESPORT has identified as a possible stumbling block for Wolves.

The report states that the valuation is ‘just above’ what Wolves would be willing to spend on the Englishman, adding that the Old Gold would be ‘unwilling’ to pay more than £20m.

Given how influential Clarke was for Sunderland over the 2023/24 campaign, it would be surprising for the Black Cats to negotiate a figure below their asking price.

Gary O’Neil will hope that Wolves can find the funds for Clarke

Hailed as a “super talent” by former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray during last season, Clarke contributed to 19 goals in the Championship, scoring 15 and assisting four.

The winger could offer O’Neil another direct outlet on the flank, with it now a question of whether the Old Gold can generate the necessary funds to acquire the 23-year-old.

Last summer, Wolves were in a similar situation regarding Championship talent Viktor Gyokeres, who later joined Sporting CP as the Midlands club were unable to pay his £25m asking price.

The Swedish striker went on to score 43 goals in 2023/24, leaving Wolves with a bitter taste in their mouths at what could have been had the money been there.

With Palace also eyeing Clarke as a possible replacement for Michael Olise, it will be fascinating to see just how highly Wolves place the Sunderland star on their wanted list, in what is poised to become a battle for the winger.
