Marc Guehi tells the story of how Anthony Gordon managed to fall off his bike on England duty

Marc Guehi has been England’s standout performer at Euro 2024 so far as the Three Lions edge closer to their round of 16 showdown against Slovakia.

Playing in his first major tournament, the Crystal Palace man has slotted in seamlessly at the back alongside John Stones and has enhanced his reputation with three assured displays in the group stages, recording two clean sheets in the process.

Another player featuring in his first major tournament for England is Anthony Gordon, who made his debut in the competition as a second-half substitute in the 0-0 draw against Slovenia earlier this week.

Pictures emerged of the Newcastle United forward with a nasty gash on his chin, and Guehi has lifted the lid on how it happened.

Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon fell off his bike, reveals Guehi

Speaking at a media session ahead of England’s Euro 2024 clash against Slovakia, Guehi explained how Gordon injured himself in rather comical fashion.

“He fell off his bike. The boys went on a bike ride – I actually wasn’t there but I heard about it. I was talking to him and wasn’t really paying attention while I was talking to him, but I turned around and saw a massive gash on his chin. He’s okay, though.”

When asked if Gordon’s fall has emerged as a joke in the England camp, Guehi said “A little bit, yes” with a wry smile on his face. The 23-year-old also went on to confirm that the Newcastle attacker is doing okay, allaying fears that he could be out of action.

Guehi and Gordon emerge as wanted men in the summer transfer window

Both Guehi and Gordon are coming on the back of hugely successful seasons in the Premier League, thereby earning call-ups to the England squad for Euro 2024.

Tottenham reportedly ‘love’ the idea of signing Guehi this summer, while Liverpool and Manchester United have also been linked with the 23-year-old. Crystal Palace, however, are unlikely to part with one of their key players, making it an uphill battle for his suitors.

As for Gordon, there have been reports that he’s got keen admirers at Liverpool. That said, with the Reds well stacked up front with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz vying for three starting spots, they are unlikely to make a move for Gordon unless there is an unexpected departure.
