Report: Crystal Palace now pushing to sign £17m player Mauricio Pochettino compared to Lionel Messi

Crystal Palace have been searching high and low for the perfect Michael Olise replacement and now they’re pushing for a £17m gem.

For Crystal Palace, the past week or so will have been centred around one thing and that is finding who is going to replace Michael Olise at the club.

This has led to several names being mentioned with Palace clearly casting the net wide to ensure the best possible addition is made for Oliver Glasner.

Antonio Nusa has become a real frontrunner with interest thought to be high, but now reports in Europe are claiming the Eagles are pushing for another option.

This could therefore see Dougie Freedman hand Glasner his very own Lionel Messi.

Marcus Edwards being pushed for by Palace

The potential Olise replacement who Palace are now pushing for is Sporting Lisbon’s winger Marcus Edwards who has been a name quietly in the background for Palace.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Palace’s interest comes from Glasner who wanted the winger back when he was manager of Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, according to the outlet, Edwards isn’t particularly keen on making the move to Selhurst Park as it states he isn’t ‘enticed’ by the move.

It is thought that Edwards would instead prefer a return to Tottenham Hotspur where he used to play, although it’s unclear whether they’d be keen, but do hold a 30 per cent sell-on clause.

It was reported in March that Sporting could sell Edwards for a fee of just £17m which in this market is an absolute steal. That being said Palace clearly have some work to do in order to convince him.

Marcus Edwards would be an exciting addition to Palace

If Palace were to sign Edwards, it’d be an exciting move which would keep fans at Selhurst Park on their feet.

Edwards is an incredible dribbler on the ball and has been compared with the one and only and arguably greatest ever, Messi earlier in his career.

“The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,” explained Mauricio Pochettino when he managed Edwards at Spurs.

That being said, his actual impact on the game is lacking for a 25-year-old with just four goals and four assists last season in Liga Portugal. Therefore, we’d probably rather have Nusa arriving at the club this summer.
