Report: Crystal Palace unlikely to make move as Premier League rivals set £10m price tag on target

Crystal Palace will likely be scared off by a £10m price tag which has been placed on one target this summer.

This summer has already seen one arrival brought into the Crystal Palace squad with Chadi Riad joining for £14 million to reinforce the defence.

Riad is expected to be followed by Daichi Kamada who is expected to be announced in July.

Meanwhile, on the exit front, it looks like a deal to sell Michael Olise is agreed with Bayern Munich beating Chelsea to the signature of the talented Frenchman.

Now though, a potential third arrival has been mentioned and it’s a player the Eagles have been linked with since the January transfer window.

Palace could be scared off by Mark Travers asking price

In a bid to strengthen across the field this summer, the Eagles have now been linked with a move for Bournemouth’s Irish goalkeeper, Mark Travers.

The link comes from a report by The Irish Sun which explains that the 25-year-old could depart the Vitality this summer, with Celtic joining Crystal Palace in having an interest.

However, the sticking point comes as Bournemouth have reportedly set a £10m asking price for the goalkeeper to depart this summer.

This fee is staggering and the report states Palace are likely to baulk at it this summer, with a strong goalkeepers department already and Travers not an upgrade on either.

However, interest in the Irishman is long-term and it was reported on deadline day in the winter transfer window that he’d been denied a January move and was expected to make the move in the summer.

Signing a £10m goalkeeper makes no sense for Palace this summer

With Palace in a very good place financially and a budget which has only been added to following Olise’s exit, moves are expected to be made.

However, is signing a £10m goalkeeper to add to Dean Henderson and Sam Johnstone a good use of the funds? We don’t think so.

It seems very unnecessary and so the news that Palace would be scared off by the Cherries’ demands is welcomed.

The only reason this move would transpire is if Johnstone or Henderson are sold, but even then, Travers is no better than second choice.
