'Plenty of interest': £17m Wolves player could now play under Jose Mourinho next season - journalist

One Wolves player could be set to play his football under Jose Mourinho next season.

It has been a busy day on the transfer front, with Wolves reportedly entering into advanced talks to sign striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Supposedly, Wolves have reached an agreement in principle to land the Norway international.

There also continues to be more speculation about Max Kilman, who is a big target for West Ham United. The Hammers are expected to come back in with a new bid for the Molineux skipper.

If the Strand Larsen transfer comes to fruition, then it is very possible players will start to leave in order to balance the books.

Another player who could be on his way out is Daniel Podence – and now, another club could make a move for him.

Podence spent last season on loan with Greek giants Olympiacos, after Wolves failed to sell him last summer.

No suitable permanent offers were forthcoming and so, Wolves had little choice but to loan him to his former club, extending his contract in the process.

Podence did very well, making 47 appearances and scoring 15 goals. He also made 13 assists.

Olympiacos want to re-sign him.

But they could potentially face competition from Fenerbache. That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who was speaking on The Wolfpack podcast.

He said: “The feeling is the price is quite high at this stage. It might cost somewhere in excess of £15 million, maybe even as high as £20 million to get a deal done. That’s out of Olympiacos’ budget as well.

“Nothing is at the point where it’s advanced yet. But a really good season at Olympiacos, plenty of interest in the player.

“Also from Turkey as well. One to keep an eye on with Podence is Fenerbahce, who have made an enquiry in the last couple of weeks.

“With Fenerbahce, the conversations taking place to my knowledge are all only on the player’s side at this stage.”

Jacobs adds that it would be ‘staggering’ if Podence was still a Wolves player beyond the summer window.

Podence will surely leave

The expectation is that Podence will bring his spell with Wolves to an end this summer, following a four-and-a-half-year stint after joining for £17 million.

He recently made some comments suggesting that he did not feel valued by the club, and it just seems impossible that he remain at Molineux.

It will be interesting to see when he winds up for next season. The suggestion Podence could fetch upwards of £15 million seems a little excessive, despite his fantastic 2023/24 season.

Of course, Fenerbahce recently announced Jose Mourinho as their new manager, so Podence could well be linking up with a fellow countryman out in Turkey.

Fenerbahce narrowly missed out on the title last season, and Mourinho will be tasked with winning it back off Galatasaray.

Podence, though, was very happy at Olympiacos and will surely be looking to try and seal a permanent move there if possible.
