Small jet goes off runway shortly after landing at Newark airport, officials say

A small jet went off the runway Thursday afternoon shortly after it landed at Newark Liberty International Airport, an FAA spokesperson told NJ Advance Media.

The pilot and lone passenger of the the Embraer business jet at the time were not injured, investigators said.

A spokesperson for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said on wing of the private plane was damaged when it landed at 1:50 p.m.

The FAA was slowing the flow of aircraft into the airport following the incident, which resulted in a temporary runway closure.

The runway was reopened by 3:34 p.m., authorities said.

“Flights into and out of (Newark Liberty International Airport are) experiencing delays,” a message on the airport’s website states. “Please contact your airline for flight status.”

The FAA said real-time flight updates can be seen here.
