'Medical booked': Romano shares new contract detail as 'exceptional' ace closes in on Wolves move

Pedro Lima’s transfer to Wolves is nearing completion as Fabrizio Romano relayed some fresh information on the deal.

It’s been an incredible start to the summer transfer window for Gary O’Neil and Wolves.

The Wanderers hierarchy are going the right way about improving on their 14th-place finish last term by investing in young talent.

First, Tommy Doyle’s transfer from Manchester City was made permanent in May following a successful loan before Rodrigo Gomes was captured from Portuguese outfit Braga.

Wolves have also agreed to sign highly-rated right-back Pedro Lima from Sport Recife, with the 17-year-old set to undergo his medical on Saturday ahead of an £8.45 million move to Wolverhampton.

A fresh update on Pedro Lima’s move to Wolves has emerged

Wolves beat off interest from Chelsea to land the talented teenager and O’Neil believes that instead of plying his trade at under-21 level, the Brazilian is capable of being in and around the first team.

Lima looks like an exciting signing, following the trend of acquiring young players with limitless potential this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has since provided fresh detail on his contract while also offering an update on their pursuit of Getafe striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has been compared to Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland.

Romano claims that while Strand Larsen is advancing on personal terms ahead of a move to Wolves, Lima will fly to England on Saturday to carry out a medical before sealing a five-year deal with a sell-on clause inserted into his contract.

That is the only hurdle the teenager has to jump over before officially becoming a Wolves player and once he does, supporters can be excited about his talent.

Pedro Lima can be Nelson Semedo’s heir at Wolves

Given O’Neil has already talked up Lima becoming a regular fixture in the first team just shows how highly he’s rated and in the future, he looks like a perfect heir for current right-back, Nelson Semedo.

The Portuguese international sees his contract expire in 2025 and as he’s the club’s second-highest earner on £80,000-a-week, Wolves may either cash in on him this summer or lose him on a free transfer.

It’s unlikely that at the age of 30, the club will want to hand him a long-term contract, especially on his current wages.

Judging by the profile of their transfers so far, O’Neil is shifting their recruitment towards a different direction, signing young players with big potential as opposed to older players on more money.

Dubbed “exceptional” by talent scout Antonio Mango, Lima certainly can become a Premier League defender in the future and giving him a five-year contract suggests they see him as a long-term Semedo replacement.
