Report: Chelsea think their young prospect can make 'significant strides' closer to senior football next season

Chelsea reportedly have belief that their 16-year-old prospect is a star in the making and can push closer to a first-team breakthrough next season.

There’s been a long-term success of young players to come out of Chelsea’s academy at Cobham in recent decades.

When you look at the current Blues senior squad, there’s several faces that started out in the club’s youth ranks.

The likes of Reece James, Conor Gallagher, Levi Colwill and Alfie Gilchrist all have roots leading back to the Blues academy.

It’s now been suggested that the Blues have high hopes for another young emerging talent.

Chelsea have high hopes for Yahya Idrissi-Regragui

According to The Daily Mail, Chelsea hope that they can convince their youngster Yahya Idrissi-Regragui to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

It is understood that Idrissi-Regragui, who’s aged just 16, is considered to be one of the most promising young prospects in the Blues academy ranks right now.

The report says that the teenage attacker is attracting interest from Premier League rivals such as Manchester United and Newcastle United.

In addition, the Mail’s report claims that Idrissi-Regragui is being tipped to make ‘significant strides’ closer to senior football next season. It’s why Chelsea are keen to secure his long-term future on a new contract as suitors circle for him.

Do the academy players still have a genuine path?

When you consider how many youngsters Chelsea are signing, especially South American wonderkids, it does make you wonder what the pathway will be like for the club’s academy players in the coming years. Hopefully, the door remains open so that these young talents keep coming through.

In the example of Idrissi-Regragui, it’s exciting to hear the club are hopeful of getting him to sign a new deal.

The teenage attacker has already played for Chelsea’s Under-18s age group. Also, he’s represented his country Morocco at the U18 level.

This is certainly a name for supporters to keep an eye out for in the coming months.
