'Big decision': Dave Edwards explains why Wolves are in an 'excellent position' despite recent transfer rumour

Wolves veteran Dave Edwards has informed Gary O’Neil that his former club are in a strong position in the summer transfer window.

Gary O’Neil made it clear throughout the 2023/24 season that Wolves needed to add depth to the squad in the summer transfer window.

Before July, the Old Gold have started to grant the boss’ wishes, with three players already committing their futures to the project.

Pedro Lima is expected to join Tommy Doyle and Rodrigo Gomes as Molineux’s 2024 arrivals, with the window starting to heat up for the Premier League side.

While attention has been on those arriving at Wolves, departures are also expected to happen ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Dave Edwards thinks Wolves are in a good position despite Max Kilman speculation

One player whose future looks uncertain this summer is Max Kilman, who is wanted by West Ham at the request of Julen Lopetegui.

The Hammers aren’t the only side said to want the Wolves captain, with several other Premier League clubs rumoured to admire the 27-year-old.

Despite there now being a real possibility that the Old Gold could lose their captain this summer, ex-Wolves ace Dave Edwards is adamant that his former club are in a strong position despite the interest.

Writing in a column for Express and Star, the former Wolves midfielder said that O’Neil is in an ‘excellent position’ regarding Kilman’s future.

“Wolves are in an excellent position considering there’s more than one team interested and you do feel the fee will go up.

“Max Kilman’s value should be at least £40million, for the type of player he is and the age he’s at. At 27, he’s in his prime and still has years ahead of him.

“Wolves have a big decision to make if the offers start going up. Can they replace him? Can they strengthen other areas of the squad? Will it mean they don’t have to lose other players?”

Edwards’ opinion on the Kilman transfer situation is correct

As expected, Wolves are reluctant to let their captain leave however, for the right price, it’s thought that O’Neil would permit Kilman to depart.

The 27-year-old has made his desire to remain at Molineux known although, the player’s future is still uncertain due to the fact that Wolves could still receive their £45m asking price.

With several Premier League clubs eyeing the centre-back, Edwards’ beliefs that interest is positive ring true, as Wolves could land a staggering profit for the defender.

Only time will tell just how far West Ham are willing to go in their pursuit of Kilman, who played every minute under O’Neil in the Premier League last term.
