Overnight closures of the westbound carriageway will then continue into next week, with the motorway closed on Monday and Tuesday from 8pm until 6am the following day.

Westbound lane closures follow from July 3 until July 11, with no access to Reading Services westbound during that time.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “Maintenance, including work on bridge bearings and fresh paintwork, is vital to ensure the long-term safety and integrity of the M4.

“Drivers are advised to follow diversions and allow extra time for their journeys and can stay updated by checking the National Highways webpage and Twitter/X.
