Aston Villa could make millions off a forgotten youngster who is no longer at the club

Aston Villa could net millions of pounds due to a sell-on clause thanks to the potential sale of the former youngster.

The summer window is well underway, with Aston Villa amidst plenty of transfer deals. The club has welcomed both Lewis Dobbin and Ian Maatsen to Birmingham over the past week.

It is also likely that Unai Emery will lose both Douglas Luiz and Jhon Duran, with the latter wanted by two Champions League outfits.

However, the club could now receive some unexpected income over the coming weeks.

Forgotten former youngster, Jaden Philogene, who is currently at Hull City could be on the move this summer, with Villa having a clause which could see them profit from any deal.

Last summer, Villa sold academy star Philogene to Hull City. The 22-year-old winger had successful loan spells at Stoke City and Cardiff City before a £5 million move to the Tigers.

However, inserted in the deal was both a buy-back and a sell-on clause.

Since the deal went through, Philogene has impressed at Hull. The winger got 12 goals and six assists in 32 games in the Championship.

As a result, he has been the subject of interest from multiple Premier League clubs. On Friday, Sky Sports reported that Everton are planning to bid £16 million for the winger.

If this is accepted, Villa should see some extra money enter their pockets that they might not have expected.

While it is not stated how big the sell-on clause is, if for example, it was 20%, it would see Villa net £3.2 million.

More clever transfer moves from Aston Villa and Monchi

Since his arrival at Aston Villa, Monchi has transferred Villa into a very savvy side in the marketplace.

While his transfers so far this summer have rightly earned plaudits, his previous sales now look like they will pay off.

Philogene would never have gotten into the Villa first team, and now, they look to profit from his form.

It stands to reason that Villa could yet profit more from their former youngster if more teams bid for the winger.

No doubt the potential incoming money could help the club in the coming weeks as they prepare their squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
