‘Deal agreed’: Wolves close in on signing of 13-goal striker as key agreement emerges - journalist

Wolves are closing in on the signing of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen and a key agreement in the deal has now emerged.

Wolves supporters have been dealt a rare feeling of excitement during the 2024 transfer window.

The Wanderers have completed deals for Rodrigo Gomes and Tommy Doyle while wonderkid Pedro Lima is a medical away from finalising his move to Molineux.

Gary O’Neil’s ultimate aim this summer however, was landing a new striker, and it appears they could have acquired their top target.

It was reported on Thursday that Wolves were in advanced talks to sign Celta Vigo sharp shooter Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has drawn comparisons to Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland.

A fresh update has since emerged in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, with the signing of Strand Larsen said to be imminent.

The key agreement in the deal to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen

Daily Telegraph journalist John Percy has revealed that Strand Larsen’s move to Wolverhampton will be on an initial loan with the option to make it permanent for €27m (£22.8m).

Percy states the Norwegian powerhouse will undergo his medical on Monday while the option to sign the striker will be triggered by an agreement on an amount of appearances.

It appears that barring any late hiccups, Strand Larsen will become the centre forward in gold that O’Neil has been craving when he arrives at the start of next week.

O’Neil struggled without a natural centre forward last term and following injuries to Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan, he was forced into playing academy stars Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome, who weren’t ready for Premier League football.

Strand-Larsen, meanwhile, most definitely is.

Why the Jorgen Strand Larsen deal is smart from Wolves

In the past, Wolves have been guilty of unloading a war chest of funds on players who are untested in the top flight, namely Fabio Silva and Goncalo Guedes.

Those are just two of the many deals that have burned a hole in Fosun’s pocket and have forced the recruitment team into rethinking their strategy.

Wolves no longer rush into deals without looking at the benefits and drawbacks. This is demonstrated by their decision to sign Strand Larsen on loan with an option to buy included.

Whilst the talented Norwegian scored 13 goals in La Liga last term, there are no guarantees he’ll become a success in the Premier League and if he doesn’t, O’Neil can send him back to Spain.

That is, of course, if they don’t trigger the appearance clause in his contract.

On the flip side, if he does take England’s top flight by storm and live up to the Haaland comparison, signing the player permanently for £22.8m would be a bargain.

Strand Larsen looks like an exciting striker to watch and his physical strengths, including his electric pace and incredible power, are perfect for the Premier League.
