Report: Chelsea still admire £20m star Graham Potter wanted to sign, he'll decide future after Copa America

Chelsea do still hold an interest this summer in signing a player they previously wanted when Graham Potter was in the dugout.

Potter only left his role as Chelsea boss in April 2023, but there’s been a huge turnover of managers since.

The Blues have had Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard in temporary coaching roles, plus Mauricio Pochettino was in charge last year.

It now falls on new head coach Enzo Maresca take charge of this wild project at Stamford Bridge, which is full of ups and downs on a monthly basis.

Chelsea still admire striker Jonathan David

90min claims that Chelsea are among the group of Premier League clubs interested in signing Lille star Jonathan David.

It is understood that Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the 24-year-old frontman. In fact, Potter previously asked the Blues to sign him.

The report mentions that there’s rival interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham in the Ligue 1 ace.

Apparently, Lille could ask for as little as £20m for David’s sale if it’s a guaranteed-fee heavy structure.

David is about to enter the final year of his contract with French top-flight club Lille and he doesn’t plan to extend his stay beyond that.

The Canada international is expected to wait until after his country have finished competing in the Copa America before deciding his club future.

His form last season was fantastic

David was in amazing form during the 2023/24 campaign for Lille.

The quick centre-forward scored 26 goals and made nine assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

For £20m, this could potentially be a bargain transfer fee for any buyer.
