Nottingham Forest player has now signed four-year contract with Europa League outfit - Romano

Nottingham Forest are ramping things up on the transfer front and now another player looks set to exit the football club.

It has been quiet in the way of incoming and outgoing deals at the City Ground but over the last week, things have started to pick up.

Elliot Anderson has checked in from Newcastle for £35 million, while Odysseas Vlachodimos has gone in the opposite direction.

Now, it’s been claimed that other players are in the sights of other football clubs.

It was claimed yesterday that Lewis O’Brien is catching the eye of Luton and Norwich, with Forest keen to sell him.

There is also another player who looks set to be announced at a new club as Forest look to reshape their current squad.

Fabrizio Romano delivers update on Moussa Niakhate transfer

It would now appear as though Forest are cashing in on Senegal international Moussa Niakhate.

The 28-year-old has agreed terms on a four-year contract – according to Fabrizio Romano – with Lyon as Forest bid to cut their cloth accordingly in terms of their PSR cycle.

Niakhate signed for Forest from Mainz in 2022 and Nuno Espirito Santo had been against letting him leave this summer.

However, Forest are trying to ensure they meet the financial requirements to avoid a points deduction.

In order to do that Forest have allowed Vlachodimos to leave and Niakhate is now set to follow.

It will mean that the club can now likely resist the temptation to cash in on Murillo, Morgan Gibbs-White and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Clubs will still be interested in those players but ultimately Forest can now command decent transfer fees for their best players.

Niakhate has signed a four-year deal with the Ligue 1 outfit and he will contest European football next season.

Forest must now focus on defensive reinforcements

It’s not ideal that Niakhate has been sold but if he means Murillo can stay for another season, we’re all for it.

At 28, Niakhate is in his prime and in the next couple of years he could possibly start to decline as a player.

The left-sided central defender has been a useful player for Forest but he has suffered from a number of injury problems during his time at the club.

Forest, however, must now dip into the transfer market to target at least one new central defender.

Niakhate’s departure goes on the back of Felipe choosing to retire and leaves the Reds short at centre-back.

Murillo is joined byWilly Boly and Andrew Omobamidele at centre-back and Espirito Santo will definitely want at least one more player to arrive in defence.
