Report: Arne Slot is currently planning to keep £25m Liverpool player at Anfield for next season

Despite being linked with an exit this summer, Arne Slot is now including one Liverpool player in his plans for next season.

Right now, it all seems pretty quiet at Anfield whilst Slot begins to work with Liverpool’s new-look hierarchy of decision makers.

Last summer under Jurgen Klopp was an exceptionally busy one, when Liverpool effectively completed an overhaul of their midfield.

Had Klopp not left this summer, many felt at the time that a defensive rebuild would ensue a year later, but there are currently no signs of such.

And rather than making significant changes, Liverpool will reportedly look to fine-tune their squad for Slot.

The Dutchman will add new signings, but not in the same vein as Klopp’s final summer, when the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch all arrived.

That being said, several Liverpool players are still being linked with an exit.

And in a summer in which Luis Diaz has flirted with a move to Barcelona, it has also seemed possible that the club’s number two goalkeeper, Caiomhin Kelleher, could depart.

Arne Slot still planning for future with Caiomhin Kelleher despite Liverpool exit rumours

After playing 26 games for Liverpool in Klopp’s final season, Kelleher has publicly stated that he wants to be the club’s new number one.

Of course, with Alisson at the club that’s very unlikely to become a reality right now.

And given the Brazilian is still only 31-years-old, it’s fair to say that the writing is on the wall in that regard.

Therefore, Kelleher has been linked with a Liverpool exit, but The Athletic have just shared a report detailing that Slot is still planning for next season with the keeper on board.

Liverpool would consider an offer of £25m to be irrefutable for the Republic of Ireland international, but are in no rush to sell the 25-year-old.

Given that Adrian may reject the club’s offer of a new one-year deal, Liverpool seem likely to be in the market for a new number three this summer.

And unless they achieve excellent value for Kelleher as stated, it seems unlikely that they will want to cause themselves further work in the goalkeeper department.

And on Kelleher’s side, he may be willing to wait and see how things plan out under Slot initially, perhaps a situation that may be addressed again in January.
