‘Terrific’: Tottenham think they’re about to sign a player who’s perfect for Ange Postecoglou - journalist

Tottenham look set to seal their first signing of the summer in the coming hours.

Indeed, Archie Gray looks set to sign from Leeds United, and an announcement on that front is imminent.

The teenage midfielder is set to sign for Spurs in a big-money deal with Joe Rodon heading in the other direction.

Gray is seen as a bright talent, and according to Alasdair Gold, speaking on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Spurs think he could be just the player Ange Postecoglou needs in his team.

Tottenham think Archie Gray could be perfect for Ange Postecoglou

Gold spoke about the impending arrival of Gray and how Spurs view him as a tactical fit.

“He and his representatives felt that was the one, that was the place he would develop quickly because of how much gametime he would get at Brentford. That was his choice, but it all collapsed and Spurs sensed the opportunity,” Gold said.

“He was one they felt would not only be a terrific player for the future but also in the Postecoglou system he could really fit in like an absolute glove. As soon as the opportunity arose Spurs were in there like a shot.”

Archie Gray could be important this season

Archie Gray may be arriving at Spurs as an 18-year-old who has never played a minute of Premier League football before, but don’t be shocked if he plays a key role this season.

Spurs are paying a big fee to sign this young man for a reason, and the fact that he’s capable of playing in numerous positions is also a huge positive.

Of course, Gray won’t immediately be the first name on the teamsheet at Tottenham, but he will surely get his fair share of minutes this season, and who knows? Perhaps come the end of the campaign he could establish himself as a starter.

Tottenham believe Gray is perfect for Postecoglou, and if he can hit the ground running, he could be one of the signings of the summer.
