Report: Newcastle want to sign £15m Nottingham Forest but Nuno now wants to keep him

Nottingham Forest will see their squad undergo a number of changes this summer with Nuno Espirito Santo wanting to reshape the squad.

So far, it’s been a busy week from a Forest perspective on the transfer front.

Elliot Anderson checked in from Newcastle and Odysseas Vlachodimos went the other way to sign for the Magpies.

Earlier today, Forest announced that Brandon Aguilera had signed for Rio Ave permanently and that one perhaps comes as a surprise.

Now, it’s been claimed that Forest are potentially facing a battle to keep hold of another of their star players this summer.

Newcastle still keen on signing another Forest player

The Magpies aren’t going to stop at Vlachodimos and it’s now been claimed that they want to sign another Forest star.

The Athletic claims that Eddie Howe would still like to sign Anthony Elanga as he bids to sign a right-winger.

When Forest were first linked with a move to sign Anderson over the weekend, it was claimed that the Sweden player might be the makeweight.

Elanga enjoyed a wonderful first season in the Premier League with Forest.

He was a regular in the team under Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo, scoring five goals and claiming nine assists.

Elagna only cost Forest £15 million from Manchester United and if they were to sell him now the club could command a much higher price.

Forest hold the aces with Elanga

Newcastle might want to sign Elanga but it doesn’t mean that the club has to sell unless their valuation is met.

Forest look to have complied with PSR this time around and they should have staved off another threat of a points deduction.

With that in mind, the club are in no rush to sell their better players and that will likely mean that Newcastle will have to dig deep.

Furthermore, Elanga is unlikely to want to leave Forest right now.

He’s playing week in and week out for a manager who has given him the chance to star in the first-team and hopefully, he will show his loyalty.

Newcastle had to sell Anderson to Forest at the weekend to comply with PSR themselves.

As a result, they might have to keep a close eye on the purse strings and we just can’t see them being able to afford Elanga any time soon.
