Rangers 'deal has been agreed' as transfer that went quiet gets green light

Rangers are looking to pick up the pace on the recruitment side of the summer with Nils Koppen working overtime to bring new faces to the club.

Next to join Philippe Clement’s squad looks like it is going to be Hamza Igamane, the Morrocco international, replacing Kemar Roofe who left at the end of his contract.

There has been an update on the 21-year old’s situation after appearing to be close to being announced by Rangers before he gets the five-star Ibrox tour.

Igamane might not be a well-known name or a player that Rangers fans will have come across before, however, neither was Alfredo Morelos.

It is unfair and too early to draw comparisons just yet, but it’s hard not to when you look at the YouTube compilations and see his style of play.

Hamza Igmane hitch ironed out as Rangers move nears

Speaking on Tuesday 2 of July’s daily update, David Edgar informed listeners to Heart and Hand that there is nothing to worry about:

“One player who looks as though he will be arriving this week after a hold up with visas is Hamza Igamane.

“There wasn’t anything special about his visa application, but as any of you know, as you get into bureaucracy, there are forms to fill out and things to stamp.

“It can take a wee bit longer than you want it to but that is all done now and we’re expecting Hamza Igamane to formally sign, and the deal has been agreed with his club FAR Rabat with an initial fee of £1.5m.

“There are some add-ons there as well, but £1.5m is the initial fee for him.”

Igamane ticks all the right boxes for Rangers trading model

This is the sort of signing that Rangers need to be making more often.

It’s not hugely expensive, although there is enough evidence to suggest that Igamane could turn into something special.

Igamane has 24 goal contributions in 58 senior appearances in Morrocco, even the best strikers didn’t immediately hit the ground running with the sort of goal scoring rate that made them the best in the world.

Even players like Cristiano Ronaldo were only hitting one goal every three games until they were the same age as Igamane.

Last season, Rangers ran out of goals.

Cyriel Dessers carried the burden almost on his own because of Danilo suffering two freak injuries and Roofe never being able to get fully fit.

There was never another option and rarely did Philippe Clement have two fit strikers to call on.

Igamane might not being guaranteed to be the first-choice striker, but he will certainly be hot on the heels of whoever is.
