If you’ve ever wanted to race in Baja with pro team style equipment but didn’t know where to start, Ford Performance has you covered. The newly revealed Ford Bronco DR shows off a little of what it can do in the video below, hoping to lure in buyers who’d pay basically anything for a Coyote V8 powered Ford Bronco. It’s important to note, however, that the truck isn’t technically street legal.
Ford’s Bronco DR is a race ready, Baja ready, no assembly required, type of vehicle. You can turn the ignition on and get going. It is important to note that you’re on your own when it comes to safety equipment however, despite the price tag for owning the race truck starting at $200,000 USD. And only 50 units will initially be made for the 2023 model year.
2023 Ford Bronco DR Highlights:
The Bronco DR will get its power from a 5.0 liter V8 Coyote engine expected to push out 400 horsepower. As far as the transmission goes, the DR will utilize the 10R80 accompanied by an electric shift on the fly transfer case seen in the F-150. In terms of rock climbing ability and range the Bronco DR will feature a whopping 65-gallon gas tank and provide an approach angle of 47-degrees and an exit angle of 37-degrees featuring gigantic Multimatic dampers. And we mean huge. To put theory into practice, the Coyote V8 Ford Bronco is expected to race for the first time in the 2022 Baja 1000.
Desert Racing History:
Before the Ford Bronco DR and its Coyote V8 muscle, the Bronco brand has had a long history of truck racing. In 1969 the 4×4 Bronco won the overall race, beating out two-wheeled motorcycles and presumed highly capable sand rails. It’s still the only four-wheel-drive to ever do that. In 2020 and earlier this year a stock Bronco Sport won the Rebelle Rally X-Cross class.
