Ford Performance brought a lot of vehicles to the 2021 SEMA Show. And we mean, a lot a lot. There was a Ford Bronco with tank treads, a Maverick with a center exit exhaust, a Mach-E on bags, and even an electric F-100 to balance out the V8-powered Ford Bronco DR hanging around outside the Las Vegas Convention Center. So you wouldn’t be remiss if you missed this big surprise: a supercharged 2022 F-150 directly from Ford Performance, featuring a Hellcat-rivaling 700 hp at 6,500 rpm and 590 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm with the help of a brand new Gen 5x Whipple Supercharger. 0-60 is estimated at under five seconds. Honestly, why couldn’t this be the new Ford F-150 Lightning?
Whatever the reason doesn’t really matter. All that does matter is that this 2021+ Ford F-150 Whipple supercharger kit will be available as a Ford Performance product. This 2022 F-150 build doesn’t just have a blower under the hood, either. It also comes with a Ford Performance Extreme Exhaust, FPP Lowering Kit, a bunch on bed storage add-ons plus a tonneau cover, and bronzed concept wheels teasing big blue Brembo calipers. Best of all, this Ford Performance licensed product comes with a 3-year, 30,000-mile warranty, and is 50-state legal.

Per Whipple, the updated Gen 5x supercharger for the new Ford F-150 features an all new housing, inlet, a pulley design to make power more efficiently, and improved airflow capacity. The inverted design, which nestles the twin-screw supercharger in the valley of the block, is still intact. Not leaving out the10-speed transmission, Whipple integrates its proprietary software, and re-calibrates it to keep the supercharged 5.0L V8 in the Ford F-150 in its peak torque range, and works with the truck’s various drive modes.
If you buy the Gen 5x Ford F-150 supercharger system from Whipple directly, it will run you at least $8,050 USD for the Stage 1 system, and $8,850 USD for the Stage 2. The price doesn’t seem to include installation, so tack on a couple grand for that, as well. Check back for Ford Performance pricing.
While it’s unlikely that Ford will build a supercharged F-150 from the factory, we’ll take solace in the fact that its aftermarket partners are happy to pick up the slack. So if you don’t really want an electric F-150 Lightning, this might be your best option.
