HOONIGAN FINISHES, FIRES UP 1,004 HP CAMARO Z/28 SEMA SHOW CAR: VIDEO

The last time we saw the Hoonigan third-gen Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 build, they had just dropped in a 10.4L ZZ632 big-block V8 crate engine that produces 1,004 horsepower. The Hoonigans also installed a Motech digital cluster gauge, suspension system, shocks and hooked the engine and the transmission system up. Since that video aired, the ZZ632 Camaro Z/28 from Hoonigan was on display at the Chevrolet Performance booth last week at the 2021 SEMA Show. However, we were left with a blank space on how they finished the project. The video below shows us how the build was finished up:

Finishing The Hoonigan ZZ632 Big Block Camaro Z/28

A lot needs to get done from where we left off to ensure that the vehicle runs smoothly. First, the engine harness Chevrolet Performance provided didn’t fit the build, so it needed to be adjusted. Next, Hawk Street brake pads are installed while the brake lines and wiring for the injector are also placed. Then, ensuring that the main focus under the hood of the Hoonigan Camaro Z/28 is on the engine, the battery is mounted behind the dash. Once the giant radiator is installed and seats are placed inside the vehicle, fuel and oil are filled, the engine roars to life, sounding just as powerful as one would think from the world’s largest crate engine.

The build doesn’t end there, as Hoonigan still needs to wire in all the electricals into an MSD Solid State Relay, which removes the need for a bulky fuse box. The transmission is also removed to install an Action Clutch Twin Disc clutch kit, which helps pull maximum power from the ZZ632 as it feeds to the transmission.

Lastly, the headers are installed, and a custom center console mounts into the cab. Next, a K&N air filter from a sprint car is fabricated and placed onto the top of the engine. But as you can see from our exclusive photo gallery, the sprint car air filter didn’t seem to make it to the 2021 SEMA Show

Nevertheless, we hear the ZZ632 10.4L Big Block V8 crate engine fire up for the first time… and it’s so loud the audio equipment on the camera can’t even absorb all of the sound. To be in that garage to listen to that engine start for the first time must have been a titanic experience. And we’re not talking about sunken boats.

Towards the end of the video, we can see that Chevrolet designers had a hand in dressing up the exterior of the Hoonigan Camaro Z/28… and even teased a “Part 2” for next year. We can hardly wait for that.
