The decision between cars and trucks is challenging. Stay on paved roads with superior speed and control, or go off the beaten path with superior ground clearance? Tow more than 1,000 pounds, or tow over 5,000 pounds? Fit in a parking garage, or not? One asks why we can’t have the best of both worlds? Some guy in Tennessee decided to create a solution to this dilemma by building a dually Dodge Challenger muscle car.
Details On The Dually Dodge Challenger
The project starts with a 2018 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack with every option added except the manual transmission and shaker hood. The builder told The Drive that the rear suspension is a stock five-link setup, and the hubs have eight-lug adapters to fit the truck wheels. They’ve been mounted onto thick spacers that allow for the stock rear fender to dip between the wheels when the suspension gets weight on it. In addition, 1980’s Ford F-Series fender flares cover the outer wheels, which the builder had chosen due to the style not taking away from the sharp lines of the Challenger.
Plans for the build include turning the dually Dodge Challenger into a competent truck substitute. Its 6.4-liter V8 that produces 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque has the power needed to do the job, so there’s not much work needed under the hood. The builder says he already uses it as a recovery vehicle and does tow a small trailer. However, some modifications to the chassis, rear subframe, transmission, and suspension will enable the Challenger to tow up to 8,000 pounds. It would be eye-catching for fellow drivers or law enforcement to see a Challenger pulling a camper trailer down the highway. The Challenger’s stock four-piston Brembo brakes ensure it has the stopping power needed so long as he can find a way to connect the trailer brakes to the car as well.
Once Ray’s Rides completes the build, he plans on selling the dually Dodge Challenger to fund opening up his own shop and enabling him to create some more amazing head-turning vehicles. The American dream.
