TORNADO SURVIVING TEEN TAKES DELIVERY OF NEW 2022 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LTD

It’s official, 16-year old Riley Leon has taken delivery of his new Cherry Red 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD All-Star Edition after losing his former ride to a tornado in Elgin Texas. The new truck comes as a gift from a dealership in Fort Worth Texas, a nearly three hour drive from Elgin.

You may have seen the story about a red Chevy Silverado being sucked up by a tornado earlier this week or seen the video itself. While that truck ultimately was able to continue on, the vehicle was not going to be drivable for very long. After hearing about the story on a local news station, Fort Worth based Bruce Lowrie Chevrolet decided it was only right to gift the young man who had previously saved his money to purchase his truck from his father, (then lost it), a new ride.

Riley took delivery of the new truck on Saturday March 26th, which according to local news reports was just in time as he started his new job at Whataburger Monday. He was on his way back home from an interview with the fast food restaurant the day he encountered the tornado. On top of the new wheels Riley also received a $15,000 check. In addition to that, the dealership donated a whopping $50,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to help those affected by the EF-2 rated tornado that ran a 14-mile stretch of destruction per Chevy’s Facebook post.

It’s important to distinguish that the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado that Leon received is an LTD model, which means it’s not the refreshed Silverado of the same model year that’s just starting regular production. The Silverado LTD filled in the space in time that was left in the wake of various COVID-19 related delays. The refreshed 2022 Silverado can be ordered by dealers and configured on the Chevrolet website now, highlighted by the go-anywhere ZR2 model, several powertrain upgrades, a far more premium interior, and the computing power of the GM Global B electrical architecture.
