THE HUMMER EV HAS A SPECIAL BUTTON THAT DOESN'T YET HAVE PURPOSE

The 2022 GMC Hummer EV is GM’s “moonshot” project, as they say. And while we’d love to talk about a bit more about what it’s like to drive it (because, yes, we drove it!), we’re here today to call your attention to a mysterious button on the drive mode selector of the 1,000 horsepower electric truck.

GMC Hummer EV “Mystery Button”: What Is It?

During the media drive of the Hummer EV, our friend Zane at GM-Trucks.com happened to point out a button that does nothing. So far, the GMC folks have only communicated it as the “Mystery Button,” which just adds to our curiosity. Beside the Crabwalk button and the two ride height selector buttons is an “H” surrounded by three markings that give off the appearance of a triangle. When the button is pushed, a message appears on the gauge cluster that reads, “Your Mode. Your Mission. EpicIdeas@GMC.com”.

GMC has stated that the message is a solicitation for Hummer EV owners to submit their ideas on what the button should do in the future. Once they have taken in enough ideas, the company will push an over-the-air update to activate the future feature. Hey, that’s cool!

The first thing that comes to mind for us is Extract Mode which isn’t yet available on the truck. We know it’ll be enabled through an over-the-air update, but GMC confirmed to us that the Mystery Button isn’t meant for that.

When activated, Extract Mode will cause the truck’s air suspension system to raise almost six inches, for a total of 15.9 inches of ground clearance. That should certainly help the electric pickup free itself from any sort of sticky situation, or avoid obstacles entirely. That is a tremendous amount of clearance in a factory-built vehicle.
