Ford recently launched the highly anticipated F-150 Lightning, and company CEO Jim Farley was kind enough to hint during the launch that another electric truck was on the way and would be built at the company’s BlueOval City Kentucky/Tennessee manufacturing facility. But, of course, he didn’t say anything more about the upcoming truck during the F-150 Lightning launch. Still, he spoke with Laycee from the Miss GoElectric YouTube Channel, who revealed on the InsideEVs Podcast that the new pickup would have a “radical” design that some could find “controversial,” based on a conversation she had with Farley.
Early Details On Ford’s Next Electric Truck
Laycee stated that the Ford CEO told her the new electric pickup would feature active and deployable aero similar to a semi-truck, with the design focusing on maximizing efficiency. Pricing for the new truck is still unknown, but it could vary from the current Lightning due to reduced battery costs, and the range could equal that of the Lightning’s with a smaller battery pack or offer 100 miles more if equipped with an equal battery pack.

The Ford F-150 Lightning can deliver up to 320 miles of range, which means this new truck could potentially have over 400 miles. Ford has also been working on this upcoming electric truck for the past two years. The manufacturing plant where this new pickup will be produced is known as Blue Oval City. The factory is part of a multi-billion-dollar investment into the company’s future. The complex will produce the next generation of electric F-Series trucks and batteries, and the building will begin operations in 2025.
It’s hard to say what this upcoming new electric truck will be; we know that the heavy-duty trucks won’t be getting electrified versions anytime within the foreseeable future. We also know that the Ford Ranger is ready to be electrified. But if the claim that this upcoming truck will have a controversial design rings true, we could be seeing something totally new from Ford.
