FORD F-150 LIGHTNING GETS INCREASED POWER AND PAYLOAD AS IT LAUNCHES

The Ford F-150 Lightning has officially began salable production, and right at the finish line, the automaker has casually added some stat improvements to its first all-electric pickup truck. Compared to the original specs, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning will now have more power than initially estimated for both the standard and extended range battery packs.

According to TFL, the extended range F-150 Lightning trucks will now produce an impressive 580 horsepower instead of the original 563. Standard range buyers will also see an increase in horsepower from 426 ponies to 452. Both battery packs offer 775 lb-ft of torque which is the highest output to date for any F-150 model. But that’s not all, as Ford has also announced that the Payload capacity has also increased from the original estimates. When the Lightning is appropriately equipped, it can now haul up to 2,235 pounds, 235 lbs more than before.

We already know that the EPA estimated driving range for the F-150 Lightning is higher than Ford’s initial prediction with both the XLT and Lariat trims with the extended range battery rated at 320 miles on a single charge. Of course, that number can change depending on driving conditions, but all of this makes the Lightning an even more impressive truck. Power is now more than what one would get when purchasing an F-150 Raptor which has just 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque.

Ford has been focused on raising the bar on the truck, even after it was first revealed, as they wanted to deliver more for their customers. Ford plans to continue making improvements to the F-150 Lightning once they can start receiving feedback from customers once they get ahold of their trucks. In the meantime, customers can get excited about the electric truck’s power and payload stat increase, which will undoubtedly put ear-to-ear grins on owners’ faces when they put their foot down.
