FORD PERFORMANCE DEBUTS MEGAZILLA V8 ENGINE AT 2022 PRI SHOW

After a long build up – a full two years, in fact – Ford Performance has finally revealed the mighty Megazilla V8 crate engine. Its reveal took place at the 2022 PRI Show, where Ford opted to officially attend (while skipping the larger 2022 SEMA Show). Details are few, but several important specs were made public nevertheless. Below are official details on the Ford Performance 7.3L Megazilla V8 Crate Engine.

Maintaining its naturally aspirated format (making it a blank canvas for performance tuners to add forced induction such as twin turbos or a supercharger if they so choose), the Megazilla V8 produces 615 horsepower and 640 lb-ft of torque. The latter torque figure arrives at 3,800 rpm, but 500 lb-ft is already available from just 2,500 rpm and continues to be available all the way to 6,000 rpm.

In all, that’s almost 200 more horsepower than Godzilla, and some 25 more lb-ft. The Megazilla V8 engine also maintains the cast-iron block of the standard Godzilla engine. Megazilla also features a 10.5:1 compression, a low-profile intake manifold, and an S550 Mustang Shelby GT500 92 mm throttle body. This means that Megazilla will be perfect for dropping into a Mustang, or even a late-model truck or SUV. How about a Ford Excursion with one of these beefy motors? Now we’re talking.

Pricing and availability of the Megazilla V8 crate engine will likely be announced in the 2nd quarter of 2023. For a baseline, the Godzilla crate engine is priced from $9,175 USD. At the moment, it appears unlikely that the new Ford Performance crate engine will find its way into any production vehicles, such as the upcoming S650 Ford Mustang, or any variant of the F-150 pickup truck.
