'My understanding': What is set to happen to Leeds loanee Max Wober at the end of the season - journalist

This summer promises to be a busy one for Leeds United whether that be if we are in the Premier League or in the Championship – with a number of players set to return after loan spells away.

The Whites are expected to want to bring in a number of players if promoted, with the Whites now in first place in the Championship table going into the international break. There will be interest in others.

Certainly, the form of Georginio Rutter, Cree Summerville and more will attract suitors. Then, there is the elephant in the room; those that left on loan last summer using a relegation loan clause, like Max Wober.

Their futures will need to be sorted. Robin Koch has agreed a permanent move to Frankfurt, while Luis Sinisterra will join Bournemouth. Wober’s future remains unclear – with no permanent clause in the loan.

Bought for £11m in January 2023, Wober played 19 times for the club before jumping ship to Gladbach – where he has been first choice. But, Ben Jacobs told GMS that a permanent deal is unlikely for Wober.

Ben Jacobs expects Leeds United to listen to Max Wober offers

He says cash-strapped Gladbach will struggle to afford to sign Wober in the summer on a permanent basis. So, the Austria man will return to Elland Road come the end of the season. His future up in the air.

Wober may want to stay if we are back in the Premier League – but Angus Kinnear has made no secret of having an ill-feeling to those that left on loan. Jacobs says Leeds will listen to offers for the left-footer.

“They [Gladbach] are cash strapped. He joined in January 2023. The loan expires, to my understanding, in June. I’m not aware of an option or an obligation to buy. The feeling is that Wober will return anyway.

“What’s less clear is what Leeds’ plan is. It will depend on the player as well. But it wouldn’t surprise me if Leeds entertain offers in the summer, even though the player, only joined Leeds relatively recently.”
