Liverpool set to have a 21-year-old in their ranks next term who's working 'to be the best player in the world'

Liverpool are a hotbed of talent at present, with a very strong first team supplemented by top academy talents who are doing well in the Premier League.

In pre-season, the Reds will be boosted by the return of an exciting attacking talent who has made it clear he wants to become “the best player in the world”.

The player in question is Fabio Carvalho, who is on Liverpool’s books and currently out on loan at Hull City in the Championship.

Carvalho joined Liverpool in 2022 after a breakthrough season during Fulham’s Championship promotion campaign.

In his maiden season, the 21-year-old made 21 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, but clocked up just 638 minutes of game time.

Carvalho opted to move to RB Leipzig last summer in pursuit of more regular playing time, but didn’t have much luck on that front and returned to Anfield.

He then joined the Tigers in January, and has been doing fairly well for them, playing regularly and registering four goals from 11 outings.

What has Fabio Carvalho said about Liverpool and his future at Anfield?

Carvalho has now spoken to Portuguese outlet A Bola, who asked him to assess his debut season at Liverpool.

The Portugal U21 international explained the reasons he picked Liverpool, saying: “It was a bit like my career has been: ups and downs.

“But I learnt a lot there, with players at a different level. I went to Liverpool because I want to be the best player in the world. And to get there I have to compete every day with the best in the world.

“I learnt a lot from those players who have so much experience in the Premier League and the Champions League.

“It’s a very strong group, both on and off the pitch, who have taken me in as one of their own. I’m very grateful to them and to Mr Klopp.”

A Bola also asked Carvalho if he often thinks about becoming the best in the world, and he replied, as transcribed by Sport Witness: “Yes, I think about being the best in the world every day [laughs].

“That’s what I work towards. To be the best, you have to learn from the best and work towards it every day. That’s what I’m always focussed on.”

And when asked whether he plans to return to Liverpool, he said: “Yes, in the pre-season.”

It’s a shame that Carvalho’s career hasn’t really got going either at Liverpool just yet.

Sometimes it can take a little while for a player to really get up to speed with life at a club like Liverpool, as we saw with Darwin Nunez.

However, Carvalho seems to be on the right track at Hull. Let’s see what happens in the summer.

It would be good to see the new manager give him another chance to prove himself at Anfield.
