‘A messy effort’: Danish media deliver interesting verdict on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s latest international display

The Danish media have reacted to Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s latest display for Denmark.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has played a bit part role at Tottenham this season after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.

Previously a key player under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, the 28-year-old has managed just six starts in the Premier League this term.

The international break has arguably come at an ideal time for Hojbjerg and represents a decent opportunity for the midfielder to get some much-needed minutes under his belt.

Hojbjerg got 84 minutes for Denmark last night as Kasper Hjulmand’s side were held to a goalless draw against Switzerland and the Spurs man failed to impress.

Sport.TV2 handed the Dane a three out of 10 rating for his display in the middle of the park on Saturday.

The outlet labelled Hojbjerg’s performance as a ‘messy effort’ and suggested his lack of minutes at Spurs has caught up to him.

“A player who needs to play a lot,” they wrote. “And he doesn’t do that at Tottenham. Set out with several possessions, but as time went on he became too impatient and forced his game too much. A messy effort.”

While the Dane certainly doesn’t lack when it comes to work-rate, he just doesn’t seem suited to Postecoglou’s demands.

As a result, reports have suggested that the former Southampton man will be heading out the door this summer.

Hojbjerg has proven to be a useful option off the bench this season, particularly while Postecoglou looks to see out games.

But with the Aussie reportedly in the market for a fresh face in midfield, it makes sense for Tottenham to cash in on Hojbjerg.

With just over a year left on his current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it seems likely that his days at Hotspur Way are numbered.
