Rohl stat highlights just how bad Chansiri blundered with key Sheffield Wednesday decision - opinion

Dejphon Chansiri endured a major blunder before Danny Rohl’s arrival at Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl has only been at Hillsborough for five months, but has already established himself as one of Sheffield Wednesday’s most loved managers in recent years.

The German arrived in Yorkshire with the club still waiting for their first win of the campaign, while they were already sat seven points adrift from safety.

Fast forward to today, and Sheffield Wednesday have won eleven of Rohl’s 27 games in charge, while they are now only three points from 18th place.

Rohl had never managed before, but was truly thrown in at the deep end, with none of his own players and not a single day of pre-season available to him. The 34-year-old couldn’t have really arrived at a worse time.

While the Owls are still battling relegation, their position in the league table since Rohl arrived makes for frustrating reading.

Their eleven wins leaves Sheffield Wednesday in 13th place in the Championship with 35 points – a whole ten points above the relegation zone.

While it is great to see how well Rohl has done, it will be extremely irritating if the Owls are to get relegated when they could have been instead fighting for a place at the other end of the table if their current coach had been in Sheffield all season.

A Dejphon Chansiri disaster-class

Danny Rohl‘s success shows just how much of a disaster Xisco Munoz’s tenure was – another very poor decision made by Dejphon Chansiri.

Munoz had won promotion to the Premier League with Watford in 2021, but had since been sacked by both Huesca and Anorthosis, at which point Sheffield Wednesday thought it would be a good idea to bring him in.

Munoz’s stint was terrible and was miles behind the standards Rohl set, while the German himself will surely feel like he could have taken this side so much further if he had had a transfer window and a pre-season with his team.

Sheffield Wednesday should be able to reap the benefits of Rohl’s class if they can stay up though, and there is no doubt that fans should feel very excited about the prospect of having him around for a full season next time round.

Though if things don’t go their way and the 34-year-old leaves this summer then it could be a very dismal campaign at Hillsborough once again.
