Hugo Lloris reveals what he actually thought of Daniel Levy’s decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has revealed his thoughts on the decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino.

A number of years have now passed since the Argentine moved on and Ange Postecoglou has provided a new project at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although a new dawn has risen in N17, it is apparent Daniel Levy’s decision to move on from Pochettino didn’t go down well within the club.

What Hugo Lloris said about Pochettino’s sacking

Just months on from their Champions League final defeat, Pochettino found himself unemployed as Spurs parted ways with him.

In his place, quickly, came Jose Mourinho and that was just one of the appointments since which did not pay off.

Pochettino’s time at the club is the closest Spurs have come to lifting silverware over the last decade.

And it is apparent Hugo Lloris did not agree with some of the decisions being made by the board during that period of time.

He told The Times: “I am still in touch with Mauricio, always on the phone or indirectly, he is part of my football family.”

“We just reached our maximum as a team at that Champions League final. Probably it was the right time to refresh the team but it was not the right time for the club, who were focused on the new stadium. They were financially more focused on the stadium than on the team at that moment. Now there are green lights, they are focused on the football project and I don’t see why it won’t work.”

What Lloris also said about Levy and Tottenham’s trophy drought

This is not the first time Lloris has spoken out since he left the club in the January transfer window.

Following the arrival of Postecoglou, it was apparent the club would move on from Lloris between the sticks.

The Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has since come in and been nothing short of a revelation in north London.

Since joining LAFC, Lloris has spoken about the club’s trophy drought and Levy’s decision-making within the club.

He said: “It’s easy from outside or as a player to say [Levy] should do this or do that. The reality is different. When you’re at the top of the club, you’re always interested in trying to make the best decisions. When you blame him because we did not win trophies, well, he brought some huge names, and it didn’t work. And then you look at the last two or three transfer markets; the club is very active. Right now, the club is in a strong position.”

It is a real shame that Lloris was never able to get his hands on silverware with Tottenham.

He was able to lift the biggest prize in football representing his country when France won the World Cup, however, he won nothing over his years at Spurs.

Lloris may have been a sensational goalkeeper for the club, but it appears they have found a seriously impressive replacement in Vicario.
