What Brazilian media said about Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes after he was hooked at HT last night

Brazil played out an enthralling 3-3 draw with Spain on Tuesday night in the last round of international friendlies before players rejoin their clubs – and Newcastle United man Bruno Guimaraes was in action.

Brazil went into the game after beating England at Wembley last week – with imminent Real Madrid man Endrick scoring the only goal of the game for Brazil. He was on target again, against Spain last night.

Manchester City’s Rodri had given Spain the lead from the penalty spot, before RB Leipzig attacker Dani Olmo made it 2-0. But Brazil fought back. Rodrygo scored five miniutes before the half-time break.

Then, Endrick five minutes after. More drama late on, as Rodri converted a second penalty, only for West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta to score the third penalty of the match deep into injury time. In the 97the minute.

Brazilian media criticise Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes

Brazil lined-up with the same midfield that they used at Wembley. The combination of Wolves star Joao Gomes, Paqueta – who continues to be linked with Manchester City – and Newcastle favourite Bruno.

A briliant game – but perhaps, not so much for Bruno. In what has nbeen a difficult season for Newcastle, the 26-year-old failed to replicate his best. Coinciding with The Toon’s drop in form under Eddie Howe.

Guimaraes won his 20th cap on Tuesday night against the Spniards but it didn’t last long – being taken off at half-time. He wasn’t the only Brazil player to come off at the break. Three others also got the hook.

But it was not as if Bruno has deserved to stay on. Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte ran a player ratings pieve after the game, handing Bruno a rating of just 4.5/10 – who report he did “very little ” with the ball.

“Below what he can produce. In the 34th minute he missed a pass that almost led to a Spain goal. Shortly afterwards, he received a yellow. Did very little with the ball at his feet, ended up sacked at half-time.”

Is there a feeling Bruno now needs a new start, elsewhere?

Not many Newcastle players can say they have had a better season this time round, than last term. The likes of Kieran Trippier, Miguel Almiron, Dan Burn and others have dropped. Many have been injured.

The only Newcastle players, probably, that can say they’ve enjoyed a better season than last are Anthony Gordon and Lewis Miley. Newcastle are in danger of no European football come the start of next season.

That might tempt a number of players to leavem with Alex Isak linked with an exit. Bruno has interst in his services too, withLiverpool said to be keen despite Jurgen Klopp set to leave in the coming months.
