'Top young player': Jamie Carragher blown away by 18-year-old Liverpool gem who's never played under Klopp

Liverpool have a number of talented young players coming through, and Jamie Carragher is really impressed with one of them.

This has been a strange season for Reds fans, hasn’t it?

Yes, Liverpool are flying, have already won a trophy and are in with a chance of winning two more. However, they are set to lose Jurgen Klopp soon and they’ve had to rely on quite a few players from their academy.

Almost all of them have stepped up and delivered this season, which is good news. Liverpool now have another gem coming through their ranks, and Carragher seems to be a fan of him.

Jamie Carragher hails Liverpool youngster

Liverpool have several success stories this season when it comes to young players.

Jarell Quansah emerged as one of the best young centre-backs in the Premier League – some think he’s a future superstar. Young Conor Bradley has been earning rave reviews as well for his performances at right-back this season.

Jayden Danns has become a household name recently too following his impressive performance in the League Cup final against Chelsea.

All of the above players have made their first-team debuts under Jurgen Klopp. One player who hasn’t had an opportunity yet is Michael Laffey.

The 18-year-old is a regular in Liverpool’s U18s side and has even earned a call-up to the U21s team.

Laffey is a phenomenal talent, and it looks like Jamie Carragher is a big fan of him.

After Liverpool’s official X handle posted an interview with the youngster on Tuesday, Carragher, who must have seen him play on multiple occasions, replied by saying: “Top young player!”

Liverpool’s Michael Laffey played for Everton

Michael Laffey has been a Liverpool fan all his life, but his journey as a footballer started on the other side of Merseyside – at Everton.

The youngster began his career at Everton’s academy but he then made his move to Liverpool as an U10s player. He has admitted that he was always a Red even when he was wearing the Blue of the Toffees.

“I’ve always been a Liverpool fan. Even when I was at Everton, me and my dad used to have Liverpool scarves hanging out of the car and that,” he says.

For those who don’t know Laffey, Liverpool’s website describes him as a ‘combative midfielder with an eye for a pass’, and one everyone views as a future first-team player.

Laffey has caught Jamie Carragher’s eye now, and it feels like it’s only a matter of time before he gets an opportunity at senior level.
