Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to add more attacking options this summer.
The north London club need to add a bit more quality to their frontline as it feels as though Heung-Min Son has carried a bit too much responsibility this season.
Luckily, Tottenham do have a few targets in mind. However, by the sounds of it, some of the deals Spurs want to do won’t be easy.
Tottenham want £55m player, but there’s a problem
Speaking on The Spurs Chat Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared some insight into Tottenham’s transfer plans.
According to Romano, Raphinha is a player Tottenham have a concrete interest in, but signing the £55m man may be difficult due to Barcelona’s financial issues.
“For Raphinha it could be different. For Raphinha, Tottenham’s interest is concrete. It’s important to see the financial situation of Barcelona at the end of April to see how much profit they want to make on their players, especially with Raphinha, because they paid big money to sign Raphinha from Leeds, so they have to make profit if they want to sell players,’ Romano said.
“Raphinha, for sure, is a player who is really appreciated by Tottenham, but before entering talks they have to understand Barcelona’s plan for this deal, because it is not clear yet.”
Barcelona may not want to sell Raphinha
This sounds like a very complicated situation, and we would absolutely understand why Barcelona may not want to sell Raphinha.
Not only is the Brazilian one of Barca’s better players, he’s also got plenty of book value to run after arriving for £55m just 18 months ago.
With the way player amortisation works, there would be no value in Barcelona selling Raphinha unless they can guarantee a big profit on the player, and considering how Tottenham operate, it’s hard to imagine Spurs overspending on the player.
Don’t be shocked if this deal is one that proves to be too difficult to do.
